Summer is a time that cats love because they can spend more time outside. The blazing heat can cause severe health issues for your cat. If you are a cat parent like me who loves his / her, there are some things you can do this summer to help keep your cat healthy and cool.

Keep your cat hydrated with water

Make sure your cat drinks plenty of water. Most cats don’t drink enough water, especially in summer. Keep water bowls filled up with fresh water. You should do this year-round, but during the summer months it’s especially important as cats need to drink more to stay hydrated. Check the bowls multiple times a day and give them fresh water if they’re empty or get low.

Some cats will only drink if the water is running so consider investing in a pet fountain for them.

Keep an eye out for signs of dehydration. If your cat is showing signs of dehydration, take her to the vet immediately.

Healty Cat

Give Nutritious diet in summer

Your cat’s diet is extremely important for her overall health. In the summer, it becomes more important. Cats can lose their appetites when temperatures rise; make sure you’re offering your cat or kitten high-quality cat food; it helps cats maintain their ideal body weight and strength. Feed them cat wet food or finely chop up their dry food and add water to it.

Cat Grooming routine in summer

Grooming is even more important in the summer months. The heat and humidity can cause your cat to sweat. The cats need to be groomed more frequently than they would during cooler months. Cats are known for their ability to clean themselves, but there are still things you can do to make them more comfortable during the summer months.

  • Brush your cat’s coat
  • Check your cat’s ears
  • Keep her teeth clean
  • Clip her nails every week or two weeks
  • Give a bath to your cat with good quality cat shampoo.

Letting Your Cat Out

Cats are attracted to the outdoors, where they can explore and hunt and act like cats.I am a cat parent, and I know that letting her/him go outside is a good thing. But, in summer It’s not a great idea to let your cat out in summer. They can get burned by the hot pavement, dehydrated from the heat, or even get into fights with other animals. Indeed, keep them engaged indoors with cat toys.

If you want them to have some fresh air, you could try putting up a screen on your window for them to look out of. Or you could try taking them for a walk on a leash in the evening or morning.

Parasites Care

Summertime brings fleas and other parasites that have been hiding during the winter into your yard. These pests can make your cat sick and lead to an infestation in your home. Check with your vet about a good flea preventative for your cat, which will help keep them safe from these pests.

  • Never place a cat in cold water or ice as this will cause shock to their body.
  • Never leave your cat unattended in a parked car, even with the windows open.
  • Don’t let her / him go outside on a hot day.
